An Open Letter To Anne Curtis and her Artista Friends

I remember earlier this year when your Annebisyosa Concert came to Cebu. A good friend of mine burst out  over her excitement to watch your concert and asked me to go with her.

And I just wrinkled my nose and gave out a 2-page explanation why she asked the wrong person. Would you like to know why? Don't worry. This is only a summary.

"I don't want to give support to a less-musically talented artist that lessens the opportunities of other artists. Artists who have been "reasonably striving" and "reasonably deserving" to do a concert. I don't mean to be harsh but life is harsh, too. Especially, when most of your life, you and your band have been dreaming to walk up in the Araneta stage and perform all your life's work. But all your efforts can only lead you to a garage or a friend's friend's pub, just for free. Knowing that talents like these are existing and  are not given a proper recognition is a jab through a fellow artist's heart."

I heard that you like to call yourself an entertainer yet at an interview, you said you want to stay in the Philippines over Hollywood because you are recognized as a singer here. <wince>

That kind of hurts. You as celebrities do have a social responsibility to give your audience the best in you. I know that you are entitled to be yourself but the moment you decided to step on the spotlight, your personal rights have changed. And you should have known that before you chose the lifestyle of a celebrity. I know that people dictate the direction of your career. Your producers are businessmen, too. Pero, ano bang masama sa paggawa ng magandang produkto? Malulugi ba sila nun?

The way I look at the movie and music industry now, parang binabarat ninyo kaming mga manonood.

Then, you're just like Kim Il-Jong.

You might say that what you do is just a job. Na naghahanap-buhay lang kayo. Then find a regular job that pays. There are many people who have dreamt to be in your shoes. Wag nating sayangin ang opportunity na binigay sa atin. As you went up to reach yours, meron ding mga pangarap na inapakan mo along the way. Nung nanalo ka sa singing contest o napili ka sa isang commercial shoot para mag-model, you know whose dreams you stepped on. And they could have been you right now.

So what should you do now?
Please, to all actors who sidelines as recording artists or vice versa, quit your job if you don't intend to be better at it. Give yourself a proper ambition! You deserve it.
Continuing the way you are right now is a slap to your fellow passionate & talented artist's face.
Accept who you are and improve in your craft! Kung actor ka, then be the award-winning actor.

Become a part of our dying movie+music industry's solution!
Mabuhay ang ating Industriya ng Sining!

Sincerely,
Dianne Margaret A. Logarta
